Mickey Mouse Convergence
10 Feb 2004

The fight for your pocket book is heating up. Just as Microsoft recently announced their new direction in "infotainment" by focusing on making their OS capable of running all media, so too are the "content owners" (Disney) and the "content delivery" (Comcast) companies moving toward single source distribution and delivery.

Why?

You as a consumer supplies the major motivation. Everywhere you look devices and media are converging into a single device. We're not there yet but the writing is on the wall. Within the decade you will be able to operate from three basic boxes: a hand held, an office and a home device. They will provide computer applications, an Internet access, any media on demand, TiVo-like functionality and a host of new time and place applications.

The Reuters article below is another step in the convergence of media owners and distributors.
