Giant Steps toward Video Communication
2 Feb 2004
Intel & Japan Inc., take giant steps toward real-time Video communication Intel doubles chip density with "Prescott" a Pentium 4 upgrade with features as small as 90 nm. Some expect that this chip has hidden 64-bit capabilities. In other news items major chip manufacturers in Japan announced billions in added investment in chip research. It is our belief that the push is on to populate hand held and desktop devices with chips capable of processing real-time video signals. 3G phones in Japan and Europe are already based on video communication, an area where US phone companies lag by two to three years. Video communication will change the Internet from text-based messages to real-time video images. Video plus voice activated commands will provide another big step in bringing network-based communication to people that have never been trained to use a keyboard. This will increase the simplicity of operation to a point where very large percentage of the global community can operate the device. These changes when implemented will provide the basis for a new and highly personal form of advertising based on individual preferences and time/place information. The largest change will come from "face-to-face" Internet sessions. Terry and Lisa Wellman
